2022-05-16Replace most uses of Map by HashMapreduz
* Map is unnecessary and inefficient in almost every case. * Replaced by the new HashMap. * Renamed Map to RBMap and Set to RBSet for cases that still make sense (order matters) but use is discouraged. There were very few cases where replacing by HashMap was undesired because keeping the key order was intended. I tried to keep those (as RBMap) as much as possible, but might have missed some. Review appreciated!
2022-05-04Refactor module initializationreduz
* Changed to use the same stages as extensions. * Makes the initialization more coherent, helping solve problems due to lack of stages. * Makes it easier to port between module and extension. * removed the DRIVER initialization level (no longer needed).
2022-04-04Zero initialize all pointer class and struct membersRémi Verschelde
This prevents the pitfall of UB when checking if they have been assigned something valid by comparing to nullptr.
2022-02-15Add an XML schema for documentationHugo Locurcio
This makes it easier to spot syntax errors when editing the class reference. The schema is referenced locally so validation can still work offline. Each class XML's schema conformance is also checked on GitHub Actions.

2021-07-30doc: Use self-closing tags for `return` and `argument`Rémi Verschelde
For the time being we don't support writing a description for those, preferring having all details in the method's description. Using self-closing tags saves half the lines, and prevents contributors from thinking that they should write the argument or return documentation there.
2021-07-13Implement the ability to disable classesreduz
* This PR adds the ability to disable classes when building. * For now it's only possible to do this via command like: `scons disable_classes=RayCast2D,Area3D` * Eventually, a proper UI will be implemented to create a build config file to do this at large scale, as well as detect what is used in the project.

2021-01-01Update copyright statements to 2021Rémi Verschelde
Happy new year to the wonderful Godot community! 2020 has been a tough year for most of us personally, but a good year for Godot development nonetheless with a huge amount of work done towards Godot 4.0 and great improvements backported to the long-lived 3.2 branch. We've had close to 400 contributors to engine code this year, authoring near 7,000 commit! (And that's only for the `master` branch and for the engine code, there's a lot more when counting docs, demos and other first-party repos.) Here's to a great year 2021 for all Godot users 🎆
2020-12-18SCons: Add explicit dependencies on thirdparty code in cloned envRémi Verschelde
Since we clone the environments to build thirdparty code, we don't get an explicit dependency on the build objects produced by that environment. So when we update thirdparty code, Godot code using it is not necessarily rebuilt (I think it is for changed headers, but not for changed .c/.cpp files), which can lead to an invalid compilation output (linking old Godot .o files with a newer, potentially ABI breaking version of thirdparty code). This was only seen as really problematic with bullet updates (leading to crashes when rebuilding Godot after a bullet update without cleaning .o files), but it's safer to fix it everywhere, even if it's a LOT of hacky boilerplate.
2020-11-22Move and add new RegEx test casesMaximilian Mayer
Test cases for 'RegEx' are moved from 'test_string.h' to own test suite in 'test_regex.h'. Additionally, new tests are introduced and '_init' is removed as it isn't implemented/used anywhere.

2020-06-15Fix RegEx example in class doc and correct typoMaganty Rushyendra
Fix minor errors to do with `search_all` example in RegEx and typo in RegExMatch class docs.
2020-06-11Enable Unicode support for RegEx classMaganty Rushyendra
Build PCRE2 thirdparty library with unicode support. RegEx objects in Godot can now be used to recognize unicode strings.
2020-05-14Style: Enforce braces around if blocks and loopsRémi Verschelde
Using clang-tidy's `readability-braces-around-statements`. https://clang.llvm.org/extra/clang-tidy/checks/readability-braces-around-statements.html
2020-05-14Style: clang-format: Disable KeepEmptyLinesAtTheStartOfBlocksRémi Verschelde
Which means that reduz' beloved style which we all became used to will now be changed automatically to remove the first empty line. This makes us lean closer to 1TBS (the one true brace style) instead of hybridating it with some Allman-inspired spacing. There's still the case of braces around single-statement blocks that needs to be addressed (but clang-format can't help with that, but clang-tidy may if we agree about it). Part of #33027.

2020-03-30SCons: Format buildsystem files with psf/blackRémi Verschelde
Configured for a max line length of 120 characters. psf/black is very opinionated and purposely doesn't leave much room for configuration. The output is mostly OK so that should be fine for us, but some things worth noting: - Manually wrapped strings will be reflowed, so by using a line length of 120 for the sake of preserving readability for our long command calls, it also means that some manually wrapped strings are back on the same line and should be manually merged again. - Code generators using string concatenation extensively look awful, since black puts each operand on a single line. We need to refactor these generators to use more pythonic string formatting, for which many options are available (`%`, `format` or f-strings). - CI checks and a pre-commit hook will be added to ensure that future buildsystem changes are well-formatted.

2020-01-26doc: Drop unused 'category' property from headerRémi Verschelde
We already removed it from the online docs with #35132. Currently it can only be "Built-In Types" (Variant types) or "Core" (everything else), which is of limited use. We might also want to consider dropping it from `ClassDB` altogether in Godot 4.0.
2020-01-23doc: Misc updates for AnimationNode* and othersRémi Verschelde
- Add some missing descriptions. - Add links to tutorials for ARVR and AnimationTree. - Style fixes. - Engine changes: * Make `AnimationNodeTransition.input_<number>` properties internal so that they don't appear in the docs. They still appear in the inspector based on the actual number of inputs requested. * Drop unimplemented `CPUParticles.flatness`. It's only used for 3D particles in `ParticlesMaterial`, and thus only relevant for `CPUParticles3D`.
2020-01-01Update copyright statements to 2020Rémi Verschelde
Happy new year to the wonderful Godot community! We're starting a new decade with a well-established, non-profit, free and open source game engine, and tons of further improvements in the pipeline from hundreds of contributors. Godot will keep getting better, and we're looking forward to all the games that the community will keep developing and releasing with it.
2019-11-20pcre2: Use scons option to disable JIT on some platformsRémi Verschelde
Third-party platforms (e.g. console ports) need to be able to disable JIT support in the regex module too, so it can't be hardcoded in the module SCsub. This is cleaner this way anyway. Fixes #19316.

2019-07-03SCons: Use CPPDEFINES instead of CPPFLAGS for pre-processor definesRémi Verschelde
It's the recommended way to set those, and is more portable (automatically prepends -D for GCC/Clang and /D for MSVC). We still use CPPFLAGS for some pre-processor flags which are not defines.
2019-06-30doc: Add default values to all propertiesRémi Verschelde
Thanks to @bojidar-bg's impressive work in #29380.
2019-06-27Proofread and improve the whole class referenceHugo Locurcio
- Document a few more properties and methods - Add more information to many classes - Fix lots of typos and gramar mistakes - Use [code] tags for parameters consistently - Use [b] and [i] tags consistently - Put "Warning:" and "Note:" on their own line to be more visible, and make them always bold - Tweak formatting in code examples to be more readable - Use double quotes consistently - Add more links to third-party technologies

2019-04-30SCons: Always use env.Prepend for CPPPATHRémi Verschelde
Include paths are processed from left to right, so we use Prepend to ensure that paths to bundled thirdparty files will have precedence over system paths (e.g. `/usr/include` should have lowest priority).

2018-09-28SCons: Build thirdparty code in own env, disable warningsRémi Verschelde
Also remove unnecessary `Export('env')` in other SCsubs, Export should only be used when exporting *new* objects.
2018-09-12Make core/ includes absolute, remove subfolders from include pathRémi Verschelde
This allows more consistency in the manner we include core headers, where previously there would be a mix of absolute, relative and include path-dependent includes.

2018-07-26Reduce unnecessary COW on Vector by make writing explicitHein-Pieter van Braam
This commit makes operator[] on Vector const and adds a write proxy to it. From now on writes to Vectors need to happen through the .write proxy. So for instance: Vector<int> vec; vec.push_back(10); std::cout << vec[0] << std::endl; vec.write[0] = 20; Failing to use the .write proxy will cause a compilation error. In addition COWable datatypes can now embed a CowData pointer to their data. This means that String, CharString, and VMap no longer use or derive from Vector. _ALWAYS_INLINE_ and _FORCE_INLINE_ are now equivalent for debug and non-debug builds. This is a lot faster for Vector in the editor and while running tests. The reason why this difference used to exist is because force-inlined methods used to give a bad debugging experience. After extensive testing with modern compilers this is no longer the case.

2018-05-30SCons: Pass env to modules can_build methodRémi Verschelde
This allows to disable modules based on the environment, in particular `env[tools]` which tells us if we are building the editor or not.
